Nathan brings Mommy a "Present"

Paralyizing fear and absolute disgust is all I can think of to describe my son's "present" this morning. I was in my bedroom and he had been playing outside on the back porch. Ryan was getting dressed for the day and had just told me, "We need to watch him because that mouse trap is back there." I said, "Surely he wouldn't mess with it." Nathan comes in the back door calling to me, "Mommy - it's broke. It's broke." Thinking he was bringing me one of his toys to fix, I said, "ok. bring it here. He brings it in my bedroom and that's when I realized that I did indeed need to worry about him touching the trap. I began screaming - Put it down! Put it down! and Ryan comes running in thinking he had set the trap on himself. But no, he was just bringing the mouse trap in to us to show me that it had "broke," with an 8 inch dead rat dangling from the end of it. I washed his hands twice and tried not to cry while Daddy told him what a good boy he was and how proud of him he was, but next time, bring it to Daddy.

Things I said to Nathan while on the Treadmill

Move your fingers!
Don't touch that!
Don't jump off of that!
You're going to get your fingers caught in that!
Yes, Mommy's running.
Yes, Mommy's running.
Yes, Mommy's running.
Stop banging on the computer keyboard!
Do not push the rolling chair down the stairs.
No! You can not put a marble on the treadmill.
You're going to get your head caught in that!
It looks the same on the bottom, and if you stick your fingers in it you'll get hurt.
Yes, I SEE you running around the treadmill.
uh, oh. get up, you're tough.
I know you fell down. That's what happens when you run circles around something and trip over the cord.
Yes, Mommy's running.
Yes, Mommy's done now.
Are you stinky?

Nathan's First Day at a new Day Care

We had to buy Nathan a new lunchbox for his new day care. He has to take his own lunch everyday, which is slightly inconvenient, but that's why it's so much cheaper. Anyway, so now he has his own lunchbox, and he is very proud of it. He was so proud to carry it all by himself out to the truck and then in to the day care. When we got to Grandma's house to pick up Rebecca in the afternoon, he even had to carry it in to her house. Such a big boy. He did great this first day. His teacher said he acted like he'd been there all along. Well, no sruprise there - as long as you feed him and give him trucks to play with he's pretty easy. :)

My Little Dare Devil

Today Nathan figured out how to ride his four wheeler backwards. He was sitting on the handle bars with his feet on the seat and pushing the button to make it go backwards. When he hit the wall he said, "Cool."

Facebook

Recently, Rebecca went to a birthday party. I agreed to pick a couple of her friends up and take them home after the party. On the way home, they all sat in the back and were playing with the little pretend phones they had gotten as party favors. Now, you should know something about Rebecca. I don't let her watch the "tween" shows like Jonas Brothers, High School Musical, iCarly, etc. It's not that I really object to them, but they do deal with some "teenage" issues like dating, having boyfriends/girlfriends, etc. I just don't think Rebecca is old enough to really be saavy on these issues. She is only six, afterall.
Anyway, so she and her friends were in the back seat pretending to call people. One friend said, "I'm going to call Joe," and the other one said, "I'm going to call Nick." and Rebecca joins in and says, "I'm going to call the other one." She didn't have a clue what their names were. Which was really okay with me but was pretty funny.
Then, they started in on, "I just called Joe and he says he wants to marry me." and they would all laugh and giggle. Another one says, "well I just talked to Nick and he says he wants to kiss me." And they all giggled and laughed. Rebecca says, "I just talked to Kevin (they had educated her on all the right names), and he says he wants to marry me. I'm going to put it on my facebook page."
I suddenly knew I had a problem. lol. Okay, so does she know all about facebook because she's of the techno generation or because her mom is on it too much. Surely the first one, right?

First Entry

Well, this is the first entry of our Barton Family Blog. We'll see how long I keep it up. :)
This morning, I started training for the Houston half marathon. I haven't run in about 10 months so it was a pretty rough start. I'm excited to have something to train for though.

Ryan had to keep the kids while I ran because I had to be there at 7:30 this morning. I told Rebecca last night that she would have to go find Daddy in the morning because I wouldn't be here. She got really sad and said, "But Daddy won't get up with us." ha.ha. Everyone knows Ryan has a few problems waking up in the morning.

Nathan wants to spend all his time outside right now. Even though it is 101 degrees out, that's all he wants to do. It's pretty funny.
